How it compares

Five moments, four ways to handle them

Four ways a call or message can be handled today. Below is what happens with each, scenario by scenario - including where Parovia stops.

The call comes in at 2am

Voicemail
It rings through to a recording. No one answers until the office opens.
A live answering service
A person picks up, but does not know this parish, school or funeral home - only takes a message.
A generic chatbot
Usually off overnight, or answers with generic information that isn't specific to this parish, school or funeral home.
Doing nothing
The phone rings out. The caller hangs up, tries again later, or calls somewhere else.
Parovia
Answers right away, in the caller's own language, using only what this parish, school or funeral home has given it.
Where Parovia stops
It answers from what it was given. If the caller needs more than that, it says a person will call back - it does not pretend to be one.

Someone asks, in Spanish, when Mass is

Voicemail
Takes the message in whatever language the caller speaks. No answer until it is returned.
A live answering service
Depends on who is on shift. They may not speak Spanish, and may not have this week's schedule in front of them.
A generic chatbot
Usually answers in English only, or translates a page that may not match the actual schedule.
Doing nothing
The caller gets no answer, and may show up at the wrong time or miss Mass.
Parovia
Answers in English or Spanish, from the schedule this parish, school or funeral home has posted.
Where Parovia stops
If the schedule changed and no one told it yet, it says so - it does not guess a time.

A parent asks what tuition costs

Voicemail
A message is taken. The family waits for the front office to call back.
A live answering service
Can take a message, but usually cannot quote this school's real tuition or scholarship terms.
A generic chatbot
Pulls whatever is posted on the website, current or not.
Doing nothing
The family gives up, or calls a school that answers.
Parovia
Answers with this school's current tuition and scholarship information, as the school itself provided it.
Where Parovia stops
A financial-aid appeal or a special family situation is a judgment call. It hands that to a person at the school, not itself.

A child calls asking for help

Voicemail
No one is there to respond in the moment.
A live answering service
A person answers, but may not know the procedure this parish, school or funeral home has for it.
A generic chatbot
Continues the conversation like any other question, with no procedure to follow.
Doing nothing
No one answers.
Parovia
Recognizes what is happening and routes it to a person immediately. Matters involving a minor always require human approval.
Where Parovia stops
It does not decide what happens next. A person does, every time - this is the one place it will not try to help further.

The request involves money

Voicemail
A message is taken. Nothing happens until someone calls back.
A live answering service
May take payment details over the phone, or pass along a message with no next step.
A generic chatbot
May attempt to process the request, or leave it stuck with no one to hand it to.
Doing nothing
Nothing moves forward.
Parovia
Tells the caller what happens next, then hands the request to a person. It never takes a payment or handles money itself.
Where Parovia stops
It can explain the process. It cannot complete it - a person finishes anything involving money or a record.

It will not chat about anything it was not given, and it is not a person. When a moment calls for one, it says so and gets one.
