Terms

Parovia answers questions on behalf of a parish, school or diocese, using only information that their staff have entered and confirmed.

What it is

An assistant that answers from a specific organisation's own confirmed records. It tells you it is automated at the start of every conversation. It is not a person, and it is not the organisation speaking — it is repeating what they wrote down.

What it will not do

  • It does not answer from general knowledge. If the organisation has not confirmed an answer, it says so and passes you to a person rather than guessing.
  • It never takes a payment or handles money.
  • It never signs anyone up to work with children, and it never processes a signup from someone who says they are a child.
  • It does not give spiritual direction, hear confessions, or speak for a priest.
  • Anything touching money, personal records, permissions or deletion is prepared for a person to decide — it is never completed automatically.

Emergencies

Parovia is not an emergency service and is not monitored around the clock. If someone is in danger, call your local emergency number. In the United States, the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline is 988.

Relying on what it says

Answers come from records the organisation entered and confirmed, and they carry the date they were last checked. Information can still go out of date between checks — a Mass time changes, an office closes for a holiday. For anything that matters, confirm with the office.

Parovia provides the software; the organisation is responsible for the accuracy of what it publishes through it.

Using it fairly

Do not attempt to overload the service, extract another organisation's information, or use it to harass anyone. Access can be limited or withdrawn where it is being misused.

Privacy

What is recorded and how long it is kept is set out on the privacy page.
